What if a fictional flamenco character just comes-a-walking into your head—unannounced, like a melody you didn’t know you remembered? Just so, Sol, Lola, and Rose appeared to me as an idea for a novel—a flamenco dancer, a flamenco singer, and a flamenco guitarist. But once they arrive, then what? That’s where ChatGPT (AI) comes in. Stories, like inner voices, are always there, waiting for you to listen. It’s the unconscious becoming conscious. For me, that is exactly what art does. And it happens when you make space, are quiet, and simply begin—pen to paper, pencil to canvas.

And just like that, the main characters for my flamenco novel-in-the-making, appeared as if they had always been there, just waiting for me to notice them. I think the main secret to this was the stillness of my natural surroundings at that time, during a three-week retreat in a cottage.

The characters that came to me, for my flamenco novel, were based on my real-life flamenco besties, and myself. And with that, out came the urge to write down all of our flamenco adventures in Seville during the 00’s. It felt so exciting.

Flamenco Characters and AI

Once Sol, Lola, and Rose had taken shape in my mind, I knew they had something to say—but what? That’s where AI became my unexpected writing coach.

Lately, I have been working with ChatGPT not just as a brainstorming tool but as a creative conversation partner—helping me refine my characters, explore their inner conflicts, and even structure my novel’s plot.

ChatGPT is an AI-powered conversational assistant that generates human-like text responses based on your input (prompts). For those of you who haven’t worked with ChatGPT yet: this AI (Artificial Intelligence) app basically looks like a chat program where you type your message and get an answer from ChatGPT.

Shaping Sol, Lola, and Rose: The Flamenco Archetypes

Through dialogue, questions, and character development exercises that ChatGPT suggested, I refined their voices, their contradictions, and their deeper truths.

Sol, my protagonist, emerged as The Seeker—half Dutch, half Spanish, a bailaora (flamenco dancer), but also an artist without fully realizing it. She absorbs the world around her with all her senses, drawn to flamenco history as much as the movement itself. Her relationships mirror her dance: always in motion, always reaching for something just out of grasp.
